Wellbeing
Welcome to the Wellbeing section of our school's website. At Salmestone Primary School, we recognise the importance of underpinning academic growth by nurturing the holistic well-being of our students.
This section provides resources, support, and guidance to help our students and their families, and to promote positive mental health practices among our school community.
Navigating the challenges of growing up can sometimes be overwhelming. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students feel empowered to prioritise their wellbeing and seek assistance when needed. It is very important that if you have any worries or concerns about your safety, mental health or wellbeing you talk to a member of staff. This can be your tutor, a teacher or a member of the pastoral team.
In collaboration with students, parents, staff and mental health professionals, we have curated a range of resources to signpost you to.. Whether you're looking for information on coping strategies, stress management techniques during exams, or seeking support for yourself or a friend, you'll find valuable insights and practical tools to navigate the ups and downs of life.
Our goal is to promote a culture of open dialogue surrounding mental health, reducing stigma, and creating a sense of belonging within our school community.
Explore the resources available in this section, and remember, you are not alone.

Last term, in their DT lessons, year 5 looked at how bridges are built, as well as the different types of bridge that we may see in the world around us. The children investigated which bridges are the strongest using card and counters before they had a go at building their own bridges using spaghetti and masking tape. The children then tested the strength of their bridges to see how many counters it could hold. Great work year 5! 😊

Our RAF STEM Workshop! Years 5 and 6 recently took a leap into the future during an exhilarating RAF STEM Workshop. The hangar (well, the classroom!) was buzzing with excitement as our young engineers explored the cutting edge of technology, artificial intelligence, and aerospace design. Teaching the Machines The session began with a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence. The children took on the role of "trainers," teaching an AI model to distinguish and recognise specific Royal Navy aircraft. They learned first hand how machines "see" and process data—a skill that is becoming essential in our increasingly digital world. From UFOs to UAPs Once they mastered the basics of AI, it was time for some creative engineering. The students were tasked with designing their own Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)—the modern term for what we traditionally called UFOs. The real magic happened during the testing phase: The Tech: If the AI machine successfully recognised the student's UAP, it triggered an automated response. The Interception: Upon recognition, the machine would automatically fire a paper airplane to "intercept" the craft! Inspiring Future Innovators Beyond the paper planes and coding, the workshop provided a fascinating glimpse into what the future of flight and defence might look like. Our students showed incredible problem-solving skills and teamwork, proving that the next generation of scientists and pilots is already well on its way.

Recently Year 5 and Year 6 took part in the TKAT tag rugby festival at Newlands. The children came 3rd in the competition growing with each game they played. For most of the children it was their first time in a competitive rugby game and the team did extremely well, showing great sportsmanship and determination. 🤩

As part of World Maths Day, our Year 6 children worked alongside our Year 1 children supporting them with Numbots. The older children provided encouragement and technical support helping the younger children to log on independently, enabling them to practice their maths in the classroom and even at home. Our Year 6 children were great role models. 😍
