Wellbeing
Welcome to the Wellbeing section of our school's website. At Salmestone Primary School, we recognise the importance of underpinning academic growth by nurturing the holistic well-being of our students.
This section provides resources, support, and guidance to help our students and their families, and to promote positive mental health practices among our school community.
Navigating the challenges of growing up can sometimes be overwhelming. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students feel empowered to prioritise their wellbeing and seek assistance when needed. It is very important that if you have any worries or concerns about your safety, mental health or wellbeing you talk to a member of staff. This can be your tutor, a teacher or a member of the pastoral team.
In collaboration with students, parents, staff and mental health professionals, we have curated a range of resources to signpost you to.. Whether you're looking for information on coping strategies, stress management techniques during exams, or seeking support for yourself or a friend, you'll find valuable insights and practical tools to navigate the ups and downs of life.
Our goal is to promote a culture of open dialogue surrounding mental health, reducing stigma, and creating a sense of belonging within our school community.
Explore the resources available in this section, and remember, you are not alone.
Meet the team who are here to support you every step of the way on your journey through school...

As the summer holiday approaches, Kent Police would like to notify parents of a current concern over children using catapults, possibly in response to social media. There has been an increase in the number of reports received relating to animals and wildlife being targeted, injured or damaged by objects fired from catapults. While carrying a catapult is not a criminal offence, its use may lead to criminal liability depending on the circumstances, for example under: • Section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (intentionally killing or injuring any wild bird); • Section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (causing an animal to suffer); • Section 1 of the Wild Mammals (Protection) Act 1996 (causing unnecessary suffering to any wild mammal); • Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 (unlawfully having any offensive weapon in a public place, meaning any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to a person, or intended to do so); and • Section 1 of the Criminal Damage Act 1971 (intentionally or recklessly damaging property) Kent Police would like to share the following advice: 1. Dissuade your children from leaving home with a catapult. 2. Explain to your children that using a catapult to cause damage or harm is a criminal offence. 3. If you wish to dispose of a catapult, contact your local beat officer who will be able to assist (details can be found at www.kent.police.uk).

⭐ Our UKS2 Sports Day was held last Friday (27th June). ⭐ The children worked as a team in the morning to earn points for their teams (Mountain Hares, Snow Leopards, Golden Eagles and Brown Bears) by completing 9 different activities, including basketball, relay runs and long jump. In the afternoon, children competed individually in track races, including: sprints, hurdles, sack races and an egg and spoon race. We also held a relay race between each of the houses to conclude the day, which was won by Golden Eagles this year! 🦅 It was a marvellous day and the children competed well, supported one another and upheld our Salmestone values of: Ambition, Integrity and Community.

Brodie enjoyed demonstrating just how big our tomato plant has grown! Brodie's stripy courgette plant is also the best out of the three that were planted and Arlo's goosebump pumpkin vine is around a meter long now. 🍅 The children are thinking they may soon need to be rehomed in the school's outdoor garden area so the bees can pollinate, and Triffid the tomato plant will get the indoor planter to herself. 🐝 Great work Brodie, Arlo and Ms Uburgs! 🌱
