Year 1 are learning about the human body as part of their science topic. They have been learning about the parts of the human body and why each part is important. The class extended their learning this week by exploring their senses. Children worked in groups to complete a range of activities and identified which sense was used at each station.

Year 1 visited the Windmill community gardens in Margate. The children looked for signs of winter in the gardens and worked in groups to collect items as part of a scavenger hunt. The children also chose a tree in the gardens to make friends with ,they observed the tree closely and recorded the tree with an observational drawing. The children will visit again in the summer term to identify the differences between the seasons. 🌿

Year one have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. To help with this, the children created a text map to retell the story. A text map is a set of visual represtentations or actions that help the children to remember the story. Over time, the class will change the character and setting to write their own version of the goldilocks story. Great work year 1! 🐻

Last term years 5 & 6 made doodlers as part of their Design Technology learning. 🤖 The children had to use their understanding of electrical circuits to design and create their doodlers, then raced them against one another to see whose was the fastest! It was a great unit and the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

Children in year 5 had the opportunity to repair and play retro games consoles this term! As part of our wider school initiative for electrical waste and recycling the children repaired the games console in small groups, replacing the screen and fixing the buttons. Once they had the console fully working they had the opportunity to try some retro games. The children thoroughly enjoyed using a screw driver and their understanding of electrical circuits to put the console back together. They demonstrated great teamwork and perseverance, following instructions and working together. There is still the chance to bring in any e-waste or electrical items that can be re-used, these can be placed in the pink bins next to our dinner hall.
